About Laiba
Laiba Bhurgri BSc MACP
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Victoria.
My background experience includes providing emotional and practical support to Muslim immigrants and refugees during their transition to life in Canada, using a trauma-informed, culturally-responsive, and anti-oppressive lens. I also have experience in crisis work.
I primarily work with clients on concerns related to anxiety and stress, life transitions, depression, self-esteem/self-compassion, relational boundaries, emotional distress, intersecting identities, trauma, and body image. My goal is to create a collaborative environment where clients can explore and address their concerns.
Laiba's Approach
I am committed to using a person-centered, holistic, and culturally-responsive approach. I take a relational approach to counselling and believe that the client is the expert who brings a wealth of knowledge through their lived experiences. My practice is grounded in the belief in our natural healing abilities.
I aim to support folks in unearthing their existing strengths and developing coping strategies that are equipped for their unique abilities. By fostering a supportive therapeutic relationship and nurturing environment, I hope to walk with you and meet you wherever you are on your healing journey.
I offer evidence-based approaches and use an eclectic approach in my work, incorporating the mind, body, and spirit. I primarily draw on elements from mindfulness-based approaches (MBCT/DBT), ACT, internal family systems (IFS), and accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy (AEDP). Working together, I believe that we can navigate an approach that is best suited to your needs. I invite you to reach out for a free consultation to see if we would be a good fit!
